Friend of mine was down in Florida picking up a new van for her family and she sends me this. Apparently one of the guys there owns this 1200hp monster.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Rear mounted turbos really make for an uncluttered engine bay. Tbh I kinda like seeing all the turbo plumbing on an FI engine. Also she’s 9 months prego so I didn’t expect her to get any pictures of the turbos and the hubs was dealing with paperwork.

I’ll take this over hellcat simply because BWAAAAAAAHHHHPPPP PSHHHH BWAAAAHHHHPPPPP PSHHHH

I think the surge of power at boost would more than make up for it. You’ll take it at the 60 ft... But that’s about it.

I’m thinking it ranks up there right around *crap your pants surge*

Oh yeah, it would be fun, but I’m still confused as to why you’d put it back there in the first place. You aren’t gaining anything by putting it back there apart from maybe a cooler engine bay.

I’m thinking space perhaps? Single turbo I could see fitting in the bay but two? If I’m not mistaken this is a popular method with Corvettes and Vipers

Could be. These are pushrod engines, so there could be less space around the bottom of the block.

Space and $$. Mounting one turbo, much less two, in an engine bay that didn’t originally come so equipped is an expensive, labor-intensive, custom proposition. Rear-mount turbos, on the other hand, are often near-as-makes-no-difference to bolt-on, which makes for a much easier and cheaper install. And given that an SRT8 isn’t exactly lacking for off-the-line grunt, the tradeoff really isn’t a terrible one.

Bigger turbos, cooler air. This is a technique for drag racing only.

Vipers place is in the front fender, because side pipes.

I think the raw low end torque the Hemi makes on its own will make up for any lag, not to mention if it’s pushing 1200 HP, I can imagine there’s other mods to it.

space, cooler charger (as the turbos arent next to the engine) potentially easier to install (refer to space)

No offense to your friend for not taking pictures of the turbos (b/c preggo), but it could just be an interfooler and nothing else. Unlikely, I know, but some jackholes just want to brag and say that they have 1200 horsepower.
Either way, I still can’t figure out why someone sets out to make this kind of power, Hellcat twins or more—where are you actually going to use it? At this power level, any drag strip is going to say, “Come back when you have safety equipment,” and the turbos are probably still going to lag (along with the fact that nothing seems to be modified to make this cruise-liner turn) so much that track days are out of the question. When will this person ever be able to put their foot down and not die? Woo, $60,000+ (guessing) burnout machine... /endrant

The husband did take a pic but it was a crappy one so I didn’t include it.

Kinja'd!!!

But I get what you’re saying about the power. Its a pissing contest at that point. Will it ever be used at the drag strip? Maybe. Definitely not tracked. 0 to speed limit realllly fast, sure. But it’s all just to say he has it.

At least 60% of the cars on Oppo are modded I’d guess. Why? To make them unique, different, better than the next. It’s all personal taste and some people have waaaay more $$ to throw into their hobby than others.

No arguments here. And I’m very guilty of being bitten by the modification bug.

Remote mount turbos are popular with V8s that don’t have much room in the engine bay, don’t want the extra heat, and already have the torque down low. Even though the turbos themselves lag you don’t have a gutless response until they kick in.

Although with 1200hp they can’t exactly be using small ones...that’s a lot of airflow. Think of a 3.2 with a turbo sized for 600hp, times two.
